The state Department of Health has approved Maui Wellness Group LLC’s fourth medical cannabis retail dispensary, which is set to begin sales on Friday.

The DOH issued a formal notice to proceed after the facility at 1215 S. Kihei Road, D-2, passed its final on-site inspection, the department said in a news release Monday.

Maui Wellness Group, which is doing business as Maui Grown Therapies, also has locations in Kahului and Makawao. Its dispensary in Lahaina was destroyed by the Aug. 8 wildfire. The Kihei facility will become the eighth Maui retail dispensary approved by the DOH and the 25th approved in the state.

“Maui Grown Therapies’ new dispensary will provide much-needed access to patients on Maui, especially as its Lahaina dispensary was destroyed in the Lahaina wildfires,” DOH Dispensary Licensing Supervisor Liam Gimon said.

As of Oct. 31, a total of 5,302 patients and 465 caregivers were registered on Maui.

Pono Life Sciences has another four facilities on Maui in Kahului, Wailuku, Paia and Kihei.
